Anna Suhak secured her position as one of Ukraine's top basketball centers after being named the best center in the Ukrainian Superleague for the 2023/2024 season. The talented player, who has become a cornerstone for "Kyiv-Basket," reflected on her journey from dancer to basketball star in a recent exclusive interview.

"Becoming the best center in Ukraine's Superleague for the 2023/2024 season isn't just an award for me, but confirmation that hard work, passion for basketball, and belief in yourself bring results," Suhak explained.

Her basketball journey began unexpectedly when a coach visited during a physical education class and invited her to try the sport. Before that, Suhak was focused on dancing, but basketball quickly captured her heart.

The Ukrainian center has built an impressive resume, winning the Ukrainian Championship with "Interkhim" in 2016, capturing the Ukrainian Cup in 2018, and earning silver medals in the Superleague with "Kyiv-Basket" in 2024 and with "Interkhim" in 2025. Her international experience includes a stint in Italy with Marigliano in Naples.

Suhak's achievements extend beyond club basketball. She has represented Ukraine at the Youth Olympic Games 3x3 in 2018, the 3x3 European Championship, the World University Games 5x5 in 2019, and the 3x3 World Championship in 2022.

Interestingly, Suhak sees distinct differences between traditional 5x5 basketball and the 3x3 format.

"I really enjoy 3x3 basketball for its dynamics and fast-paced game. There's no time for long plays, so you need quick reactions where every second counts. 3x3 is about atmosphere, music, new connections, travel, great locations, and cool street vibes," she noted.

When asked about her greatest strengths on the court, Suhak pointed to her rebounding ability and defensive skills. "My main assets on the court are battling under the rim, reliable defense, and willingness to do the dirty work. I always fight for every rebound in both offense and defense, and I'm not afraid of physical battles under the basket."

The Ukrainian center also revealed her admiration for LeBron James, citing his powerful play, leadership qualities, and basketball IQ as inspirational. In the women's game, she follows WNBA rookies Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith, players she competed against at the Youth Olympic Games.

Beyond basketball recognition, Suhak was voted "Miss Basketball Spring 2020" by the Ukrainian Basketball Federation – an honor she deeply appreciates.

Looking ahead, Suhak is focused on preparing for the next season and is open to opportunities abroad. "Right now my focus is on preparing for the next season, working on myself. I'm open to new opportunities and want to try playing abroad again."

When asked about potentially representing Ukraine at the Los Angeles Olympics, Suhak expressed cautious optimism. "Every athlete dreams of participating in the Olympic Games. I was at the Youth Olympic Games and loved the atmosphere. It's memories for a lifetime. If it happened, it would be great."

With two consecutive silver medals in Ukraine's Superleague, is a gold medal next on Anna Suhak's list of achievements? Basketball fans across Ukraine will certainly be watching.
