Dmitry Kleban has completed his transfer from "Cherkassy Mavpy" to "Kharkiv Sokoly", making a significant career move after just one season in Ukraine's top basketball division.
Valery Plekhanov, head coach of "Kharkiv Sokoly", was eager to secure the big man's services despite lengthy negotiations.
"This is a tall player with good technical qualities who confidently plays in isolation on the low post and, equally important, has a stable and quality three-point shot," – Plekhanov explained when discussing the acquisition.
In his debut Super League season, Kleban proved his worth by appearing in 35 games and helping "Cherkassy Mavpy" secure bronze medals. His statistical contribution was solid – averaging 7.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
Interestingly, the coach believes Kleban hasn't yet reached his full potential. "We needed a big man who could confidently play against sizeable opponents like Sandul or Zagreba without feeling uncomfortable. His potential isn't fully realized yet, but I know how to make that happen," Plekhanov added.
Before joining "Cherkassy Mavpy", Kleban played a key role for "Prometey" in Ukraine's higher league. His progression through the ranks shows a player on an upward trajectory.
Can the move to Kharkiv be the catalyst that fully unlocks Kleban's basketball potential? The upcoming season will certainly put that question to the test.
