Dmitry Shchiglinsky has been appointed as the new head coach of "Zaporozhye" basketball club, according to the team's official website. The Ukrainian specialist returns to a familiar setting where he's already spent nearly a decade of his career.
Shchiglinsky replaces Alexander Pashchenko, who had only taken the position in June but stepped down due to personal reasons that prevented him from fulfilling his coaching duties.
The experienced coach brings an impressive 20-year coaching background to the position. This appointment marks another chapter in his long association with the Zaporozhye team, having previously led them from 2015 to 2021 and again from 2022 to 2024. He's certainly no stranger to the club's culture and expectations.
Interestingly, Shchiglinsky also has history with "Ferro-ZNTU", where he served as head coach before his lengthy stint with "Zaporozhye".
The coaching change comes at a time when the club is actively strengthening its roster. By the way, "Zaporozhye" has recently added an American defender to their lineup, signaling their ambitions for the upcoming season.
Will Shchiglinsky's return help "Zaporozhye" climb the Ukrainian basketball hierarchy? Given his familiarity with the organization, the transition should be smooth – but results on the court will ultimately tell the full story.
