Dynamo Kyiv players dominated their Champions League second qualifying round match against Maltese side "Hamrun Spartans" with a convincing 3-0 victory on July 22, 2025.
"We knew that Hamrun defends well and runs out in counterattacks," - commented midfielder Vitaliy Buyalskyi before the match, showing the Ukrainian team had done their homework on the opponents.
The convincing away win puts "Dynamo" in an excellent position before the return leg in Kyiv, which, as club representative Voloshyn noted, will start with a clean 0-0 score regardless of the first match result.
Before the game, "Hamrun" head coach showed confidence despite facing the Ukrainian giants. "With all due respect to Dynamo Kyiv, we are not starting with a defeat," he stated. His optimism, however, didn't translate onto the pitch.
Oleksandr Karavaev, Dynamo's defender, mentioned he wasn't particularly surprised by Hamrun's previous victory over Lithuanian club "Žalgiris" in the first qualifying round. By the way, that result determined Dynamo's opponent in this stage of the competition.
The return match in Kyiv will be officiated by a team of referees from Denmark, while the first leg was handled by Spanish officials.
Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, representing Dynamo's coaching staff, emphasized the team's serious approach: "Official matches are returning - we're preparing seriously, there will be no underestimation of Hamrun."
The Ukrainian club included several young players in their Champions League squad - Vladyslav Supriaha, Maksym Yatsyk, and Volodymyr Zadorozhnyi were all named for the qualification matches.
With such a comfortable advantage from the first leg, can "Dynamo" already start thinking about their potential third qualifying round opponent? The return match will show if the Kyiv team can maintain their momentum.
