Eric Peterson, who coached Ukrainian basketball player Maxim Shulga during his time at the University of Utah, believes his former player has what it takes to make it to the NBA.

"Max is very serious, he has the character that doesn't accept failure. There aren't many players from Ukraine in the NBA, and I think Shulga really wants to become such a basketball player," Peterson stated.

Peterson emphasized Shulga's mentality and natural abilities as key factors that could help him reach basketball's highest level. The coach seems convinced that the Ukrainian has the right combination of skills and determination.

"He will do everything to be in the NBA. He has the talent and character for it," Peterson added.

Interestingly, Shulga was already picked by "Boston" in the 2025 draft and has received a contract from the club. Getting drafted is one thing, though. This doesn't guarantee him a roster spot with the team.

The road from draft selection to becoming an established NBA player is rarely straightforward. Can Shulga's determination help him overcome the challenges ahead and become a rare Ukrainian success story in the league?
