Malcolm Brogdon remains unsigned in the NBA free agency market as the Golden State Warriors show interest in adding the veteran point guard to their roster. The former Sixth Man of the Year winner could potentially fill a significant bench role for the team that has struggled to replace Andre Iguodala's impact since trading him in 2019.
"I still think Malcolm Brogdon is still someone to keep an eye for the Warriors. To my understanding, Golden State looked at Brogdon on the trade market back during last season," – NBA insider Jake Fischer reported earlier this week. "He's been on their radar for sometime, he's definitely still on their radar now."
Just two seasons ago, Brogdon earned the Sixth Man of the Year award with the "Boston Celtics," where he averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting an impressive 48.4% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. Those numbers would certainly help a Warriors team searching for consistent bench production.
However, durability concerns loom large. Brogdon has played in just 63 total games over the past two seasons while suiting up for the "Portland Trail Blazers" and "Washington Wizards." That said, his performance hasn't dropped off much – he's maintained nearly 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists per game during this stretch.
The injury history explains why Brogdon might be available on a minimum contract despite his talent. Interestingly, the Warriors have taken similar risks before – remember Otto Porter Jr.? He joined Golden State with his own injury baggage yet provided valuable contributions. Could Brogdon's playmaking skills help ease the burden on 37-year-old Stephen Curry while giving the Warriors that reliable sixth man they've been missing? The risk might just be worth the potential reward.
