Serhiy Palkin has announced that "Shakhtar" will play its European cup matches in Krakow, Poland. The general director of the Ukrainian club expressed gratitude to Wisla FC and the city authorities for their cooperation while looking forward to the upcoming season.
"We understand that many Ukrainians, particularly refugees, live in Poland, so we're counting on their strong support and energy. We thank the management of FC Wisla and the city of Krakow for accommodating us and are confident that our cooperation will be a positive experience for all parties. We're eagerly awaiting the European cup season matches in Krakow!" – stated Palkin.
The Henryk Reyman Municipal Stadium in Krakow, where "Shakhtar" will now play, was originally opened in 1953. The arena underwent major reconstruction between 2004 and 2011 in preparation for Euro 2012, though it ultimately wasn't included in Poland's final bid. By the way, the most recent renovation took place in 2022-2023.
The stadium meets all necessary requirements for top-level European football. It has a capacity of 33,326 spectators and complies with UEFA's 4th category standards. The playing field measures 105 by 72 meters - perfect dimensions for international competitions.
Interestingly, the venue is located at 22 Władysława Reymonta Street in Krakow. Will Ukrainian fans in Poland create the home atmosphere "Shakhtar" needs for European success?
