Mainz 05: About

  1. FSV Mainz 05 is a German professional football club founded in 1905 and based in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate. The club reached the Bundesliga for the first time in 2003-04 under manager Jürgen Klopp. Previously, Mainz played at Bruchwegstadion from 1928 until moving to their current stadium in 2011. Beyond football, the club also has handball and table tennis departments.

Mainz's best Bundesliga finish was 5th place in 2010-11, qualifying them for the UEFA Europa League. In the 2023-24 season, they finished 13th after a remarkable turnaround under coach Bo Henriksen, going from 17th place with only two wins by matchday 25 to being unbeaten in their final nine matches. Their youth academy has produced significant results, with the U19 team winning the German Championship in both 2009 and 2023.

Nicknamed 'Die Nullfünfer' (The 05ers) or 'Karnevalsverein' (Carnival Club), Mainz plays its home matches at the 33,305-capacity MEWA Arena. The club's identity is strongly tied to carnival culture, as Mainz is one of Germany's three foremost carnival cities. The 'Narrhallamarsch' (a famous German carnival tune) is played after every Mainz goal scored at home. The club maintains strong community connections through its charity branch 'Mainz 05 hilft e.V.'

Mainz currently competes in the Bundesliga with key players including striker Jonathan Burkardt (15 goals in 25 appearances), midfielder Lee Jae-Sung (6 goals in 29 appearances), and Nadiem Amiri (6 goals in 26 appearances). The club has secured recent contract extensions for defender Danny da Costa and midfielder Dominik Kohr. Under current manager Bo Henriksen, who has revitalized the team since his appointment, Mainz appears to be building momentum for future seasons.
