Arthur Chaves has signed a contract extension with "Hoffenheim" until 2029, rewarding his impressive performances since joining the German club for around 6 million euros last year. The 24-year-old Brazilian defender has silenced initial skeptics who questioned the sizeable investment in a relatively unknown player.
"The TSG gave me the opportunity to prove myself in one of the five best leagues in Europe last summer, and I am very grateful to the club and its management for that. I am convinced that we have taken the right path here at Hoffenheim, and that's why I am very optimistic about our shared future," – Chaves stated after extending his contract.
Hoffenheim has moved quickly to secure the Brazilian's services long-term, setting his release clause at 20 million euros. Not bad for a player who arrived as an unknown quantity just over a year ago.
Since joining the Bundesliga side, Chaves has established himself as a regular starter, featuring in 34 matches – 31 of those from the beginning. He's also contributed two goals, including a crucial one that helped the team advance in the German Cup. By the way, his performances haven't been limited to domestic competitions, as he's also impressed in the Europa League.
The versatile defender stands out for his dynamism, speed, strength, and aerial prowess. He's comfortable playing as a central defender in either a back four or three-man defense, and can even fill in at right-back when needed.
Before his German adventure, Chaves played for "Académico de Viseu" in Portugal for two seasons – a club affiliated with "Hoffenheim". He also has international experience with Brazil's Under-20 national team.
For the current season, Chaves has set his sights on earning quality minutes to potentially make his official debut with Brazil's senior national team under Carlo Ancelotti. Could we see him in the famous yellow jersey during upcoming international breaks?
