Dillian Whyte entered the ring against Moses Itauma already compromised by a significant leg injury, according to fellow boxer Sunny Edwards. The 37-year-old heavyweight lasted just two minutes in Saudi Arabia last weekend before being left sprawled on the canvas after a devastating first-round stoppage.
"Got a call today saying Whyte leg f****** & it's going early. This ring walk ain't convincing me otherwise," Edwards revealed on Instagram before the fight.
Eddie Hearn, who has promoted Whyte in the past, suggested the veteran boxer shouldn't have even stepped into the ring. "Very impressed. But I feel very sad for Dillian. He shouldn't have been in there, if I'm being honest," Hearn said after witnessing the quick demolition job. "That was the worst matchup for him with no activity. I feel like that was always going to happen."
Hearn further explained that while the financial incentive was substantial, Whyte's condition was concerning. "Knowing Dillian at 38 years old, I found it hard to watch," he admitted. "He didn't look good on his feet."
Interestingly, Whyte himself has yet to publicly address the defeat or confirm the reported injury. The Brixton boxer, known as the "Body Snatcher," was clearly compromised from the opening bell - his movement limited and punch resistance seemingly diminished.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Itauma appears ready to capitalize on this breakthrough victory. "What's next? I will fight anyone you put in front of me," the young prospect declared after his win. "I'm ranked No. 1 with the WBO, and Parker is also up there, so maybe that can happen."
With Whyte's career now at a crossroads, Itauma is looking toward a bright future. "I'm only 20-years-old so I have got 10 or 15 years left. If I get the opportunity to fight for a world title, 100 percent I will be world champion," he confidently predicted.
Was this the last time we'll see Whyte in a professional ring? The combination of age, inactivity, and now this devastating loss certainly suggests his fighting days might be numbered.
