George Warren has revealed that a potential fight between Oleksandr Usyk and rising star Moses Itauma is now under serious consideration following the young Brit's impressive performance. The promoter isn't ruling out the possibility despite the significant experience gap between the fighters.
"We're not refusing this fight. The only thing Itauma lacks is experience. If you ask Moses, he'll say: 'Yes, I'm 100% ready.' I think he needs to be careful, but if he's ready, why not? After the victory over Whyte, we're seriously considering this fight," Warren stated.
The comments come after 20-year-old Moses Itauma made a statement in the boxing world on August 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The British heavyweight prospect needed just one round to dismantle his 37-year-old compatriot Dillian Whyte, finishing the fight with a clean knockout.
The boxing show, promoted by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions, featured the clash as its main event, and Itauma certainly delivered. His dominant performance has clearly elevated his standing in the division.
Interestingly, Turkish promoters appear to be pushing for the Usyk matchup, though many boxing experts would consider this a massive step up for a fighter with Itauma's limited professional experience. Is the young boxer being rushed too quickly toward the elite level? Or does Warren see something special that justifies this accelerated timeline?
