Conor McGregor has struck up an unexpected friendship with football icon David Beckham after their luxury yachts anchored near each other on the Amalfi Coast. The former UFC champion shared several photos on Instagram showing the two sports stars together, dubbing themselves "yacht neighbors" to his 46.6 million followers.
"David Beckham, what a guy! Great to meet you and the fam finally, a big inspiration for me growing up! The Beckham dynasty, an absolute powerhouse that COMMANDS FULL RESPECT! #YachtNeighbours," McGregor wrote in his enthusiastic post.
The 37-year-old fighter posed not only with David Beckham but also with his sons Romeo (22) and Cruz (20), clearly enjoying the chance encounter. McGregor's post included footage of Beckham's impressive £16 million yacht pulling up alongside his own vessel.
Interestingly, Beckham's yacht bears the name "Seven" – a nod to his famous jersey number during his days at "Manchester United." The Beckhams have been soaking up the sun along the Italian coast, even spotted having a romantic lunch at Lo Scoglio restaurant with three of their children, including 14-year-old Harper.
The meeting comes as McGregor contemplates a potential UFC comeback. The Irish fighter recently expressed interest in participating in an event that newly-elected President Donald Trump has proposed hosting at the White House next July. McGregor quickly volunteered his services for the unusual venue, posting: "Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House! I would be honoured! Count me in!!"
Will this yacht meeting with Beckham give McGregor the inspiration for his fighting return? Only time will tell if the "Beckham dynasty" influence will help shape the next chapter of the UFC star's career.
