Moses Itauma immediately went for a run after watching Oleksandr Usyk defeat Daniel Dubois in their heavyweight rematch. The undefeated British boxer (12-0, 10 KOs) couldn't simply sit still after witnessing the Ukrainian champion's performance.
"Why did I go running? Motivation. It's very difficult for me to see someone perform well and just sit there. Not jealousy, nothing like that. Just a fact," Itauma explained in his interview with BoxNation.
The British heavyweight feels compelled to match Usyk's level if he wants to be considered among the elite. His midnight training session speaks volumes about his dedication.
"If Usyk is at that level, I need to reach that level so I can be the best. I couldn't just fall asleep after that fight and pretend nothing happened. I would've cursed myself. I wouldn't have liked myself as much when I woke up. I would've thought: 'Damn, I should've gone for a run then,'" he elaborated.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Itauma has discussed the Ukrainian champion. Previously, he addressed whether he feels ready to face someone of Usyk's caliber in the ring.
The commitment shown by rushing out for a run immediately after watching the fight demonstrates how seriously Itauma takes his development. Is this the kind of dedication that separates future champions from the rest of the pack?
