Pedro Rodriguez has extended his contract with "Lazio" for another season, continuing his remarkable late-career renaissance in Italy. The 37-year-old Spanish winger, who will turn 38 next month, has committed to the Roman club until 2026.
The former Barcelona star's continued impact at Lazio is nothing short of impressive. Last season alone, Pedro contributed 14 goals and 5 assists across 44 appearances, averaging a goal every 149 minutes on the pitch – solid numbers for a player approaching 40.
"Pedro has represented the values of experience, balance and dedication both on and off the field," – stated "Lazio" in their official announcement, emphasizing that "his experience and reliability will be fundamental in approaching next season with solidity."
His journey to this point has been remarkable. Pedro emerged from Barcelona's youth system, transitioning from being called "Pedrito" under Frank Rijkaard to becoming a key figure in Pep Guardiola's legendary team. He left the Catalan giants in 2015 with 99 goals to his name after recognizing the fierce competition from Messi, Suarez, and Neymar would limit his playing time.
Interestingly, Pedro's career didn't slow down after Barcelona. Following stints at "Chelsea" and "Roma", many might have thought his move to Lazio in 2021-22 was simply running down the clock on his career. They couldn't have been more wrong.
Former Lazio coach Marco Baroni aptly described Pedro as an "infinite footballer" – a testament to his longevity and continued influence. His new manager, Maurizio Sarri, appears equally committed to utilizing the Spaniard's experience and technical abilities.
Will Pedro continue defying age and expectations in Serie A for another two seasons? Based on his recent performances, you wouldn't bet against him.
