Petra Kvitova has secured a wild card entry for Wimbledon 2025, as tournament organizers revealed their complete list of special invitations. The two-time champion and former world number two joins fourteen British players who also received direct entry into the prestigious grass court event.
The Czech star, currently ranked 572nd in the WTA standings, won her Wimbledon titles in 2011 and 2014. Her inclusion is particularly notable as she's the only non-British player to receive this privilege for the upcoming tournament.
"Wimbledon has always been special to me, and I'm grateful for this opportunity to compete again on these historic courts," Kvitova might say if asked about this development.
The British contingent dominates the wild card list with seven men and seven women. Among the male recipients are Jack Clark (ATP 196), Dan Evans (ATP 199), and Henry Searl (ATP 445), who at 19 years old is the lowest-ranked player to receive a wild card.
On the women's side, Harriet Dart (WTA 118) leads the British group that includes veteran Heather Watson (WTA 147) and young prospect Mika Stojsavljevic (WTA 919).
Interestingly, Ukraine will have strong representation at the tournament with Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, and Yulia Starodubtseva all competing in the main draw. Unfortunately, Angelina Kalinina has withdrawn just a day before the announcement. Two more Ukrainian players – Daria Snigur and Alexandra Oleynikova – will attempt to join their compatriots through the qualification rounds.
The 2025 edition of Wimbledon is scheduled to run from June 30 to July 13. Will Kvitova be able to recapture some of her past magic on the grass courts that once crowned her champion? The wild card gives her that chance.
