Jon Jones expressed his frustration after UFC president Dana White suggested he won't be featured on the organization's planned White House card. The 38-year-old heavyweight contender took to social media following White's comments at the UFC 318 post-fight press conference in New Orleans.
"I heard the comments made at last night's press conference. While I was a little disappointed," Jones wrote on X, "I'm still in the UFC's drug testing pool, staying sharp, and continuing to train like a professional. I'll be ready for whatever comes next."
Dana White made his position clear during the press conference, citing Jones's checkered history outside the octagon as too risky for such a high-profile event scheduled for July 4, 2026. The UFC boss didn't mince words about his concerns.
"It's not even about him winning the belt," White said. "I just can't risk putting him in big positions in a big spot and have something go wrong, especially the White House card."
Jones has faced several controversies throughout his career. In 2015, hit-and-run allegations led to his suspension, while a positive drug test derailed a headline fight in 2016. He also withdrew from UFC 151 in 2012 – incidents that have clearly left a lasting impression on the promotion's leadership.
Interestingly, Jones emphasized that fighting at the White House would give him something deeper to fight for beyond paychecks or championship belts. "Fighting for my country gives me a greater purpose!" he insisted in his response.
Despite being sidelined for this historic opportunity, Jones remains focused on his legacy. "For me, it's never been just about the opponent. I'm chasing legacy, something timeless, something bigger than the moment," he stated.
While Jones declared he's "ready to fight on July 4th," White offered no guarantees, noting that all planning for the unprecedented White House event remains tentative. Will the UFC reconsider its position as the event draws closer? For now, one of the sport's most dominant – and controversial – figures watches from the sidelines.
