Michael Chandler has expressed interest in trying his hand at professional wrestling with WWE. The former UFC lightweight title challenger isn't being shy about his dream opponent in the squared circle, either.
"A fight with Rey Mysterio would be damn fun. It might be too acrobatic for me. Give me some training, and I'll be doing double backflips and landing on people," Chandler told The Schmo in a recent interview.
The American MMA veteran clearly understands the athletic demands of pro wrestling. Rey Mysterio, who debuted in the late 1980s, has built his legendary career on spectacular high-flying maneuvers. Worth noting, Mysterio turned 50 years old last December but continues to perform at a high level.
Misterio has long been recognized as one of wrestling's premier "high-flyers" – specialists in acrobatic moves and jumps from the ropes or elevated positions. His longevity in the physically demanding world of professional wrestling is remarkable.
By the way, Chandler isn't the first combat sports athlete looking to cross over into sports entertainment. Ukrainian boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk recently appeared in a supporting role in the film "The Smashing Machine."
Could Chandler's wrestling aspirations materialize soon? With his UFC career at a crossroads, this might be perfect timing for the explosive fighter to explore new opportunities in the entertainment realm.
